The webinar series is designed to help businesses and communities cope with changes caused by the pandemic. More than 500 people have attended the first three webinars and learned from community and business leaders on how to cope with the challenges of the pandemic, including the importance of self-care, mental health, leadership, and legal responsibilities on the job.

Employers, workers, and community members are invited to participate in the free monthly WSN Feed Your Brain Lunch and Learn webinar series to discuss the most pressing issues we are all facing, and to learn from experts and each other.

At the August 26 webinar, participants have the opportunity to learn from Helen Francis, CEO and President of the YMCA of Northeastern Ontario, and Paul Andre, CEO and President of Workplace Safety North. Francis has a background in geology and mining engineering, and previously worked for 20 years at Inco, now known as Vale. Andre has more than 25 years of experience in the provincial health and safety system, and past chair of the Board of Canadian Registered Safety Professionals.

“Participants have been kind enough to share their questions in advance,” says Andre. “We shaped the presentation into themes to address the excellent feedback we received.”

“We’ll talk about general considerations for businesses re-opening as well as respect in the workplace as businesses re-open, the importance of organizational values, and talk about what we’ve learned from our own experiences.”

Discussion topics

  • Maintaining respect in the workplace for businesses re-opening
  • Importance of organizational values and vision to guide expectations
  • Demonstrating commitment to employees’ mental health and wellbeing
  • Preventing harassment and discrimination
  • Tangible takeaways and lessons learned

The webinar is hosted by Angele Poitras, WSN Community Engagement Specialist and Certified Psychological Health and Safety Advisor.
