Online clearance services streamlined at Workplace Safety and Insurance Board
Starting September 2019, instead of having a specific clearance for each business a contractor works with, one clearance will be automatically created for each contractor that is up to date with their premium reporting and payments.
A contractor is any business that is hired by another business to do work for them, so could apply to any sector.
A clearance is a unique number issued by the Workplace Safety and Insurance Board (WSIB) that shows a business, contractor or subcontractor is registered and up to date, including keeping current with premium payment and reporting.
What’s new
- Contractor has one clearance number for all contracts
- Only the name of the contractor will appear on the clearance certificate
- Businesses have to meet the same compliance criteria to be eligible for a clearance – so the organizations hiring them will have the same confidence in their WSIB coverage
- Easier online experience getting clearances
Clearance validity extended
To help make this change smoother, clearances expired August 19 will be valid until November 19, 2019.
