Presented at the 2019 Mining Health and Safety Conference.
Belt conveyor systems are widely used in Ontario mines and mining plants as well as industrial establishments for movement of material. Fatal and non-fatal injuries have occurred as a result of workers coming into contact with conveyors, components, and associated equipment, such as the conveyor head or drive pulleys and improperly guarded pinch points.
The presentation emphasizes the importance of guarding and maintenance of belt conveyors, components and related equipment. It explains how to identify hazardous conditions and how to properly guard the hazards to provide optimum safety for workers.
