Industrial fire prevention guideline from the Ministry of Natural Resources and Forestry
On January 1, 2016, the Ministry of Natural Resources and Forestry (MNRF), in consultation with Ontario industry, updated Ontario Regulation 207/96 Outdoor Fires under the Forest Fires Prevention Act to specifically include industries such as mining, electrical power generation, railways, and utilities.
The 45-page protocol from the MNRF provides direction on how to prevent industry-caused wildfires, and quickly suppress any fires on or near industrial worksites in forested areas. Seen as supplement to the Outdoor Fires regulation 207/96, the protocol offers guidance to industrial operations within the Ontario fire region during fire season, normally April 1 to October 31.
(Note: The forestry and logging sector has its own fire prevention protocol with the MNRF called Modifying Industrial Operations Protocol).
