Industrial fire prevention guideline from the Ministry of Natural Resources and Forestry

Industrial Operations Protocol on Fire Prevention - coverOn January 1, 2016, the Ministry of Natural Resources and Forestry (MNRF), in consultation with Ontario industry, updated Ontario Regulation 207/96 Outdoor Fires under the Forest Fires Prevention Act to specifically include industries such as mining, electrical power generation, railways, and utilities.

The 45-page protocol from the MNRF provides direction on how to prevent industry-caused wildfires, and quickly suppress any fires on or near industrial worksites in forested areas. Seen as supplement to the Outdoor Fires regulation 207/96, the protocol offers guidance to industrial operations within the Ontario fire region during fire season, normally April 1 to October 31.

(Note: The forestry and logging sector has its own fire prevention protocol with the MNRF called Modifying Industrial Operations Protocol).
