Occupational Lung Disease in the Mining Industry
Michael Pysklywec MD MSc
Work-related Asthma Committee, Asthma Plan of Action

Occupational lung diseases are a significant source of morbidity and mortality in the workplace, particularly in the mining industry. Common work-related conditions include asthma, chronic obstructive lung disease, cancer and lung fibrosis. This session will review the causes, management and prevention of these conditions in the mining industry. Early recognition and proper management of these conditions are key to minimizing disability. An understanding of the causes and frequency of occupational lung disease is necessary in preventing future cases.
