Mining Risk Assessment Workshop

The purpose of this two-day workshop is to:

  1. Familiarize managers and supervisors with the use of common risk assessment tools and how they fit together with your overall site risk management strategy, and
  2. Initiate a change in operational risk management 

The learning outcomes are:

  • Understanding of the context of risk assessment for mining operations
  • Understanding of the application of various risk assessment tools used in mining
  • Using process mapping for risk management applications
  • Differentiating between a material unwanted event (MUE) and a high consequence event (HCE)
  • Education on the use of the Workplace Risk Assessment and Control (WRAC) tool
  • Hands on experience with use of the WRAC tool
  • Introduction to the Bow Tie Analysis (BTA) tool
  • Introduction to post-WRAC action planning

Workshop Structure

Day 1 (8 hours)

  • Education on the applicable tools and how they are applied
  • Undertaking risk assessments on topics chosen by the participants

Day 2 (8 hours)

  • Participants will take turns leading the team through risk assessments (hands on practice), with coaching provided
