New ‘Evolution of Mining Health and Safety’ poster reflects 2023 conference theme

In advance of the 2023 Mining Health and Safety Conference, April 18 to 20, the Ontario Mining Association and WSN have released this infographic reflecting the conference's theme, ‘Evolution of mining safety: Past reflections and future innovations.’ The poster shows a timeline of major milestones in mining health and safety since 1890. The conference is sold out in person, but registration for the free livestream is still available.

In keeping with the 2023 Mining Health and Safety Conference theme, ‘Evolution of mining safety: Past reflections and future innovations,’ Workplace Safety North (WSN) and the Ontario Mining Association (OMA) have created a new poster titled, “Evolution of Mining Health and Safety.”

The 'Evolution of Mining Health and Safety' poster highlights the significant milestones in Ontario mining health and safety since 1890. Government, mining companies, and industry stakeholders continue to collaborate to ensure that mining operations in Ontario are conducted with the highest standards of health and safety, with the goal of protecting workers’ health.

Free livestreaming of keynote speakers will be available to a global audience April 19 and 20, but the in-person conference in Sudbury – the first since 2019 – has sold out once again.

“We are pleased to be hosting the event again in person,” says Paul Andre, WSN President and CEO, “ and we hope those who aren’t able to attend in person will take advantage of the free livestreaming. There is an excellent line-up of experts who will speak about safety culture, well-being and mental health—topics helpful to most people.

“This year also marks a special collaboration with the Ontario Mining Association. We have worked together to create an ‘Evolution of Mining Health and Safety’ poster as part of the delegate conference materials. WSN maintains relevant training and consulting services by working closely with the industry. We help conduct research that improves safety in practical ways by using a risk-based analysis system.”

This year, the conference celebrates 25 years of helping make Ontario mining operations safer. Each year, about 300 attendees gather to learn and share their knowledge about mining health and safety, and network with industry professionals.
