Legal requirements for mandatory skills training programs in Ontario

On January 26, 2023, Workplace Safety North jointly hosted a webinar with Infrastructure Health and Safety Association (IHSA) and the Ministry of Labour, Immigration and Training Skills Development (MLITSD) about roles and responsibilities for training signing authorities.   Employees in specific industries are legally required to take MLITSD Training, Colleges and Universities (TCU) modular classroom training programs. The Ministry sets competency requirements for these programs, and provincial health and safety associations are responsible for developing and delivering them to you.   The Signing Authority is the person designated by the employer and authorized by the Ministry who will be accountable and responsible for the quality of training, the maintenance of training records, and determining the competency of company workers for modular accreditation or certification.
