Practical prevention information for Francophone workers and businesses
With the support of the Ministry of Labour, Immigration, Training and Skills Development (MLITSD), Workplace Safety North (WSN) is able to offer several health and safety resources in the French language. This helps make important prevention information more accessible to Francophone workers and workplaces across Ontario.
The translations are part of Ontario’s Workplace Safety Plan Builder (WSPB) initiative, a free online tool developed by the MLITSD, and designed to help businesses develop workplace safety plans based on the hazards present in their workplaces.
The WSPB provides businesses with a centralized place to access health and safety information and resources. Health and safety associations, including WSN and other providers, have contributed resources to help Ontario workplaces identify and address hazards and strengthen their health and safety programs.
“With Ministry support, we’re able to provide six WSN health and safety resources into French, covering topics relevant to Ontario’s mining and forest products sectors, including driving hazards, explosives and risk assessment,” says Tiana Larocque, Manager of Integrated Solutions, Health and Safety Services at WSN. “Making these resources available in French helps provide Francophone workers and businesses with practical health and safety information on key hazards that they can use in their workplaces.”
WSN resources:
Behind the wheel: Logging industry experts analyze driving hazards
Translated: Derrière le volant : Des experts du secteur forestier analysent les risques liés à la conduite
Forest roads aren’t highways: What drivers need to know
Translated: Les routes forestières ne sont pas des autoroutes : Ce que les conducteurs doivent savoir
Storage, transportation, use, handling and care of explosives
Translated: Entreposage, transport, utilisation, manutention et entretien sécuritaires des explosifs – Ligne directrice
Oh, deer! Avoiding wildlife on the highway
Translated: Attention au chevreuil! Éviter la faune sauvage sur l’autoroute
Risk Management Overview and Gap Assessment Tool
Translated: Aperçu de la gestion des risques et outil d’évaluation des écarts
The WSPB can also be used to develop a safety plan tailored to the hazards in their workplace and access additional resources from Ontario’s health and safety system.
