Iain McKillip

Iain McKillip is the Manager of Business Planning for Glencore Nickel-Zinc, covering global operations in Australia, Kazakhstan, Europe and Canada, and is currently serving as the Chair of the Technical Advisory Committee for Ontario Mine Rescue.

Iain previously served as Manager of Mine Technical Services (Chief Engineer) at Glencore Kidd Operations in Timmins, Ontario, Canada - the world’s deepest base metal mine. Iain has extensive expertise in Mine Engineering, including Design, Rock Mechanics, Scheduling, and Strategic Planning. Iain has a heavy focus on integrating emerging technology in various aspects of engineering-driven mining, most recently including R&D and deployment of autonomous UAVs, holographic design tools, digital workflows, RTLS and application of AI/ML.

Iain has served broad roles in Emergency Response including 10 years as a Rescuer with Ontario Mine Rescue, and as Briefing Officer, Competitor, Incident Commander, and Incident Investigator, as well as Incident Commander in Wilderness Search and Rescue. Key focus has been around bringing technology R&D and intelligence developed in Mining across to support Emergency Response, including early development of the Mine Rescue Tablet, and use of UAVs, robots, and real-time positioning as tools in rescue operations.
