The goal of the course is to provide participants with the skills and knowledge to conduct planned inspections to identify and control hazards in their workplace.
This course is designed to familiarize participants with the purpose, function, design and execution of Planned Workplace Inspections (PWI) as required under the Occupational Health and Safety Act. It reviews the various other kinds of health and safety inspections in the workplace and the provincial legislation pertaining to PWI. The course material explains who should perform the inspections, what should be inspected and how often the inspections should be conducted. It also examines the direct and underlying causes of hazards and explains the 'ABC' system of hazard classification. The course includes a detailed five-step program for creating an effective PWI process.
The course material also includes a brief awareness course on basic principles of hazard recognition tools and processes. This classroom training course is conducted in an instructor-led format and is supported by audiovisual aids, group workshops and a participant guide.
