SWO/SCHSP One Day Refresher

This mandatory refresher training applies to all firms involved in the SWO program.

Firms involved in the SCHSP are also encouraged to take advantage of this refresher training on a voluntary basis for supervisors or H&S representatives requiring refresher training.

Note - Equivalent training would include: Competent Supervisor or Part 1 Joint Health and Safety Committee certification completed within the past 3 years. If supervisors, Health and Safety representatives or JHSC members have completed these courses within the past three years they are not required to participate in this refresher training at this time.

The course provides participants with a wide range of information and resources, and an excellent opportunity to network.

Course content includes:

  • Familiarization with the contents of the Act and Regulations, and have the knowledge and skill to be able to access detailed information when required
  • Review the three worker rights in the province of Ontario
  • Review various changes in legislation in the past three year
  • Understand the Internal Responsibility System and due diligence – and the important relationship between the two
  • Identify and explain the objectives and benefits of a workplace inspection
  • Identify the legal requirements of workplace inspections under the Occupational Health and Safety Act
  • Describe how to conduct a workplace inspection and how to recognize, assess, control and evaluate hazards/controls during the inspection process
  • Define incident, near miss and incident investigation and understand the purpose of incident investigation
  • Determine the appropriate legal requirements for incident investigation
  • Know how to conduct an incident investigation
