This e-learning course is designed to address the requirements laid out in the Surface Miner Common Core (Program #770010) Modular Training Standard for the U5030: Working Safely in the Job Environment module.
Topics addressed in this course include:
- Wearing, adjusting, and maintaining personal protective equipment and fall arrest systems
- Dealing with hazardous workplace conditions
- Working safely around hazardous materials
- Manually lifting or carrying materials and supplies
- Working around and operating mobile equipment
- Working from elevated workstations and in elevated areas
- Working safely around or on stockpiles
- Identifying and responding to stockpile conditions
- Working in or around water
- Practicing good housekeeping
- Working around stationary and portable equipment
- Following company emergency procedures
- Performing traffic control
To become fully accredited under the Surface Miner Common Core program, participants must return to their workplace and demonstrate their skills to a qualified trainer to get signed off on this common core module.

This course is intended for workers in surface mining operations who are looking to complete Modular Common Core training.
